Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana
I live in Gurgaon, one of the most developed cities of India and even here, all I see are the various holes, ill constructed roads at various places (although the major roads are world class) but the smaller roads have these problems including the service lanes. Now thing of the roads from villages. What would be the quality of their roads? Poor? Yes. That is why this situation needs to be combatted. India saw this in 2000. That is why then-prime minister of India Atal Behari Vajpayee introduced a policy which can change the scenario of the roads in India villages. By know, under that scheme, many villages has changed it's life style. 2 years back, when I visited my village in Rajasthan where I spent most of my childhood, I was surprised to see the major changes in it. It looked at par with the small cities.

That is why I am here to tell you about the policy.

So the roads were to be constructed as follows:

  1. Deadline of 2003 for villages with a population of 1000 (500 for hilly regions) persons and above.
  2. Deadline of 2007 for villages with a population of 500 (250 for hilly regions) persons and above.
For the above the union budget of Rs. 19,000 crore was allocated.
